Staff Accountant (AZ)

Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant position is responsible for serving as a team leader in the finance department and ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.  Experience working for a manufacturing company is preferred.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and enters journal entries which includes correcting entries, allocating expenses, etc.
  • Performs balance sheet account duties including but not limited to maintenance, research and analysis, reconciliations and reporting
  • Reviews records of accounts to ensure accuracy
  • Assists in month-end and year-end closings
  • Assists with gathering data for financial, tax and internal audits
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; and recommends changes as needed
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Accomplishes accounting and organizational goals by researching and interpreting data
  • Serves as a back-up for accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Reconciles the accounts payable and accounts receivable aging reports to the general ledger accounts on a monthly basis and communicates findings to the Accounting Manager
  • Prepares special reports as requested/required by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends
  • Prepares financial reports, charts, tables and other exhibits as requested
  • Assists with the maintenance of the fixed asset and depreciation schedules
  • Performs other accounting, financial or administrative tasks as required from time-to-time

Knowledge, Skill & Experience

  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, with an emphasis in accounting or finance
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 2-3 years accounting experience.
  • Advanced excel skills i.e. pivot tables & vlookups
  • Active listening and critical skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
  • Obtains strong computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, and ERP based accounting systems.
  • Expresses ethical conduct which includes demonstrating respect for key moral principles, honesty, fairness, equality, dignity and diversity
  • Effectively functions as a team player utilizing professional communication with co-workers and various business contacts.
