IT System Administrator

The System Administrator will design and oversee local area networks, wide area networks, and network segments. Daily tasks may include installing, upgrading and monitoring software and hardware. The System Administrator will maintain all corporate technology such as operating systems, business applications, security tools, web-servers, Application Servers, email, laptops, IP phones systems, and desktop PCs.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Administer servers, laptop and desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, company mobile phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches.
  • Install and configure software and hardware.
  • Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution.
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls.
  • Respond immediately to security or usability concerns.
  • Cisco UC call manager and VOIP phone management.
  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
  • Set up accounts and workstations.
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages.
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
  • Build and maintain an internal knowledge base of technical documentation, manuals and IT policies.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Respond to and resolve Level 2 help desk requests.
  • Manage Video Surveillance system software and hardware.
  • Maintain External Web services and servers.
  • Ensure design of system allows all components to work properly together.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

Knowledge, Skill & Experience

  • BS/BA Degree in Information Technology desired, Computer Science or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)) is a plus. Experience along with AS/AA Degree in Information Technology or related field will be considered in lieu of BS/BA Degree.
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role.
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
  • SQL Database management.
  • Server-side Application management.
  • Ability to create scripts in DOS, PowerShell, SQL, VB, or other languages.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of system vulnerabilities and security issues.
  • Ability to respond to help desk requests after hours on a limited basis.
  • VMware and Hyper-V virtualization experience.
  • Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress experience a plus.
  • Experience with Cloud Services including Azure and AWS a plus.

Financial Responsibility & Authority

  • Equipment: Ensure reasonable care and use of office equipment.
  • Supervisory: Carelessness, lack of planning, lack of enforcement, and lack of attention to detail could result in excessive waste of human resources, excessive overtime requirements, and/or loss of morale.
  • Internal and External Business Contacts: Responsible for maintaining good relations among vendors, suppliers and other business contacts. May deal with matters that require confidentiality, tact and/or respectfulness.

  • Typical Working Conditions
    • Administrative office environment, Warehouse, inventory storage and manufacturing facilities.

    • Typical office equipment. Desktop Workstations, Laptops, Printers, Network Test Equipment.
  • Essential Physical Tasks
    • Must occasionally lift approximately 50 lbs.
