Rolling Stock Mechanic

This position is responsible for the upkeep and repair of the Rolling Stock (Linde forklifts, trucks, trailers, loaders, carts, skid steers, trommel, etc.). As well as performing preventative maintenance. The primary goal of this position is to minimize downtime and plant expense, and maximize plant safety by maintaining the Rolling Stock equipment in a good state of repair. Pre-employment drug screening is required.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs equipment and/or rolling stock including Linde forklifts, trucks, trailers, loaders, carts, skid steers, trommel, etc.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including cleaning, inspecting, testing, operating, and checking fluid levels, changing the oil, and checking tire pressures. Adds fluids, lubricates fittings, and changes tires as needed.
  • Reviews maintenance records of vehicles, monitors preventative maintenance schedules and updates records after maintenance or repair work is completed.
  • Complies with hazardous materials programs. Ensure that all hazardous material/ substances are properly disposed of.
  • Operates power tools, jacks, hoists, grinders, welder and cutting torch; may cut, braze, weld and fabricate.
  • Schedule, coordinate and assist contractors in repairs and services of Rolling Stock equipment.
  • Maintain an up to date inventory of all material necessary for the performance of the assigned PM actions.
  • Ensure compliance is maintained with all applicable OSHA, EPA and applicable local laws and regulations.
  • Cleans up shop and surrounding area daily.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness.
  • Follows and complies with all company safety and security policies/procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Knowledge, Skill & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A qualified candidate will have a current forklift operator’s license, or have the ability to obtain current certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to maintain written service and repair records.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles, including automobiles and trucks, in accordance with company policy guidelines.
